Colonel Jack O'Neil was a tough-as-nails military hero committed to his country, until the loss of his son sent him into a tailspin. Labeled unstable by his superiors, he was given a "medical discharge" and dismissed from service. After two years of depression, O'Neil was called back for duty and offered the leadership of the top-secret STARGATE program, because of his nothing-to-lose personality. O'Neil accepts the mission, to which he carries along secret orders unknown to his fellow STARGATE team members.
