The Gorn are a reptilian alien species. On Stardate 3045.6, advanced beings called the Metrons kidnapped Kirk and the Gorn captain of an enemy ship to an unknown planet, where their dispute would be settled by personal combat. The victor’s ship could go on its way, while the loser’s ship would be destroyed. Although Kirk defeated the Gorn, he spared the alien’s life. The Metrons let both ships go on their way, and promised to contact the Federation in another 1,000 years.
