The Klingons were the Federation's enemy for nearly 100 years, until the peace accords at the Khitomer Conference. In the 24th Century, the Federation and the Klingons built an uneasy peace, but remained allies. Lt. Worf, the Security Officer aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D, was a symbol of that alliance. When the leadership of the Klingon Empire was infiltrated by Foudners from the Gamma Quadrant, the Klingons broke the alliance to attack Cardassia. The Founders' plot has been exposed, and the alliance restored, fulfilling the old prophecy by the Organians that the Federation and the Klingons would one day be fast friends.
