Due to the popularity of the Masters of the Universe toy line - a line marketed to boys, Mattel decided to release another series of toys that would be marketed to girls. Princess of Power debuted in 1985. It's primary marketing vehicle was the cartoon series She-Ra Princess of Power, which featured most of the figures and toys, along with many figures and toys from the Masters of the Universe toy line as well. Princess of Power would be successful enough to produce 3 waves of toys - with its final wave being released in 1987. Princess of Power has a lasting legacy, having influenced strong female series/brands like Xena, Sailor Moon and Powerpuff Girls, as well as having many of its characters revived in the current Masters of the Universe Classics toy line.
