Shooter Sniper Scout GI Joe Character: Originally a space-filling cameo wink at Marvel’s Editor-in-Chief Jim Shooter, Shooter was shown - face obscured - on a computer screen during an exposition scene in GI Joe #1. The character was later revealed during the IDW run to have been a sniper running a support mission parallel to the OG team saving Dr. Burkhardt. She didn’t survive the mission in the Hama-verse, but has been introduced as a toy during the 50th anniversary and again as a Classified Series figure. Design: I’d make a Shooter custom before, in 25A style. Here I’m switching over to mostly ARAH parts as part of my Stars and Stripes Forever set. An Indiana Jones belt has been added to adjust the proportions from the comic pack Lady Jaye parts being slightly smaller than the originals. This custom carries a lot of elements from the Classified Series figure, including the gas mask, which is now carried on the underside of the backpack. The Scarlett head steps in here. It is much maligned by collectors and fans, but it’s really not horrible. Hasbro didn’t add any makeup or lipstick to it, which would have really improved it. As it was the only OG13 female head, I was happy I found a way to include it in this set. Colors & Paint: Loosely based on the Classified Series figure. Simplified, and with the CS uniform color replaced with dark pine. Sculpting & Modifying: The neck was removed from the Scarlett head, then fixed to the Headman neck, clean up with epoxy. There’s also a bit of epoxy added to add more hair on the left side of the face, and above the knees to create fabric folds matching the lower legs. The hands had broken thumbs, so they were replaced with the more flexible NS ones. The hands are also placed to better hold a rifle, plus they’re smaller and look better for a female build. A strip was added down the chest to make it look like a zip-up shirt, lined up with the sculpted collar on the Headman neck. More strips were added to the feet to create a more boot-like appearance. The shoulder/elbow pins and the thigh screw insets are epoxy filled and smoothed. The gas mask was cut from an Imaginext firefighter helmet, bridged above the eyes with a rubber band, then hot glue drops were set in to create the lenses. The lenses aren’t the dome-eyed ones of the CS figure, but smaller ones that look better with this mask. Thanks for looking. ![]() |
