starting out with custom action figure making

Posted in Custom Workstation

so sometimes I look around images of action figures or stuff with an action figure line and I typed in machine empire (cause zeos a cool series :3) and I noticed someone made a custom figure of a character who didn't get a figure originally. long story short Id really like to develop my modelling skills into making custom action figures, mostly of villain characters cause a lot don't get their own figures. id really appreciate any advice be it for beginner or just for hobby purposes. sorry im not good with words but I tend to write a lot, really though id be grateful for any advice, tutorials or just basic tips.

edit: ok so it turns out theres actually a whole ton of tutorials on customizing and sculpting figures on this website that I kinda missed, I probably should have checked to see if there were already pages on how to custom before posting this XP. that said, I would still be very grateful for advice as a beginner from any experienced custom makers here, itd really help me get the hang of it.

Don't expect greatness the first time out. You can have all the best and fancy tools, follow every tutorial, but customizing is just like any other artistic hobby... you might be a savant right out of the gate, but expect your first customs to be mediocre. Get your feet wet with simple stuff first (simple repaints, simple part swaps, etc) before diving into any crazy nonsense that involves pieces from 5 figures and a sea shell. Also, if you get figures for BaFs or whatever, keep them. You never know when that one stupid Thor figure you've got buried in a box will have the exact belt or boot you need for something you want.

Thank you very much! This is exactly the sort of advice I was hoping for, I’m grateful for your help ^^ il start out small and when I’m ready move onto bigger game.

One question, what’s BaF stand for?

@ themechanicalmonstermaker

BAF stands for "build a figure"...if you got a whole series of certain marvel legends or dc universe classics each figure comes with one or two parts for a big one wich mostly fits to the storyline of the series.you can easily put them together to...yeah,build a figure
