Bootleg Ninja Turtles (They're pretty...pretty smelly!)
Posted in
Action Figure ChatterFinally bought a 4 pack of the turtles from china, and they're great, except that they're also horrible lel

The turtles come individually sealed in baggies, when you open the baggies POW! You're elbowed in the face by powerful eye-watering fumes. Those bootleggers took the realism too far, I don't need these things smelling like an industrial sewer.
The chemical cocktail smells like a mix between wet tupperware and turpentine, it did make my eyes water and the stench lingers on my fingers. I'm guessing the bootleggers package these things too quickly, not giving the paint enough time to dry completely. Or they just hate ugly Americans and are taking us out in the least effective way possible, one toy collector at a time. Hey, no one ever said they were smart.

Don't give these toys to your kids, they might die.
Okay, admittedly I hate reviews where the snot-nosed reviewer badmouths a bootleg for the sake of doing it, but here it's warranted.

Yes, the rings that connect the nunchucks to the chains are totally rusted and sharp. This is how they arrived. Plus, the rubberbands that hold them together stuck to the paint on the handles. And yes, they also stink.
Not only that:

That is a seed. Some kind of fluffy flying alien seed here to invade this country and turn it all into wild alien jungle. (I wonder if this post has alerted the NSA by now rofl)
Where are these figures being manufactured and packaged that something like this could even get in there? Out in the open? Next to a farm? Do they just never close their windows? Would make sense since the smell would kill them otherwise. Baffling.
The other figs fare better, their weapons are fine but they all still stink. Some QC issues, but nothing you don't already find in officially-licensed toys.
$10 a pop is great for these fully-articulated figs, but that hideous smell makes them unlovable.

Please wait...

Just put them in hot water (not boiling! 80-90 degrees C should be enough. You can try it with boiling water, but one never knows how the cheap paint would react to really high temperatures). And if they're still smelly, a bath in hot water and soap will do the rest, but I guess you already thought about it
Great price though, but I guess you have to pay another price to get figures this cheap
