AFA Grading

Posted in Action Figure Chatter

How does Action Figure Authority grade loose figures?

I deal with G.I. Joe figures but have never had any graded although I have bought some that were. I'm asking because a friend of mine has two Zap version 1 figs (one of them has a broken thumb and the other a broken crotch) and he wants to take them both apart and reassemble to make a better figure. He wants to get it AFA graded and was wondering how that would affect it. I have to admit that I'm curious as well.

So my questions are:

Does it matter that you have used parts from different figures to make a better one? Even if they are the same vintage and variation?

What about accessories and o-ring?

Is that something that needs to be disclosed when submitting a figure for grading?

I really don't know enough about the process so I was hoping someone here would be able to help out or point me in the right direction.

Thanks!

Howie

That's the same thing I was thinking. I'm much more familiar with comic book grading standards. Never used any of the figure grading companies.

From the little I remember reading about grading years ago, I got the impression that different companies have different standards, making the whole grading thing murky.
