With the cost of oil dropping to record lows will it also lower the cost of plastics? in Action Figure Chatter by riseROBOTrise
Tuesday, January 19, 2016
   [Edit]
I'll say this - I've pretty much been priced out of the market for toys.

I can't afford to drop $24.00 on a new Marvel Legends or Star Wars Black Series, no matter how obsessive/compulsive I may be. I hate that I can't pursue my hobby any longer. I'm wondering if there are any economists in our group that can explain to me in small words and simple language, why, when the cost of oil went up so did the cost of making toys. But when the cost of oil plummets, the toys are still obscenely priced? Is it simply greed? Is there more to it than that? I understand supply and demand, to a certain extent. What I'm wondering is why, when so many people want these figures, they (Hasbro) isn't making more to satiate that demand? Reme...[See More]

And yeah, I havent actively collected anything in years. I recently sold some Street Fighter figs for a big chunk of change and had no desire to spend it on more toys, its game over man. The upside is I have a stockpile of cash now haha

I remember asking this years ago, the jist of it is that prices arent immediately affected. It takes "a while" for prices in stores to reflect whats going on behind the scenes.

However, I think its total bullshit because prices always go up and never down, despite the fluxuating price of plastic/oil. Im absolutely sure toy companies want to see just how much they can charge before people tell them to funk off and stop buying. It takes a certain kind of mindset to run a company, you have to screw your customers to keep making higher profits to keep your investors happy.

If I had millions of dollars I would invest it in creating a new durable paint formula, and of course a few original toy lines. As a single person, I want to say I would set prices low, but enough that I can make my invest ...

I know exactly how you feel and have asked the same questions. I was priced out years ago. The hay day of buying every wave is long over. I may buy a nice figure or complete BAF once in a while but that's very rare these days.

Nothing amazing, but I've been wanting most of these figs. Not a bad deal at roughly $12 each.

If I still reviewed stuff I'd be going on and on about the annoyances in the Star Wars figures

Anyone have an easy way to take the white stuff off of Vision? Any suggestions for what to make with Batroc?

For Vision, some have used nail polish remover, and other use acetone, I personally use Lacquer Thinner. Whatever way, I pour some in an empty paint jar, dip a q-tip in it, then start taking off the paint in one section. You have to roll the tip of the q-tip between strokes or you will essentially be dragging little gobs of paint and thinner across. You will go through many q-tips because all of the paint you are taking off will, hopefully, be on the tip.

RIGHT after you finish up a part, I highly recommend taking a rag and wiping the excess solvent off of the surface! Otherwise it will settle and you will have to clean it up again! Or worse, you could put the figure out of commission- forever gummy and tacky!

Just a bit of info! Good luck! ...

Lel I should have been more specific

I know how to remove the paint, I've just never done it to a whole clear figure before. I really don't want to make the figure cloudy with the acetone since I've seen it happen to other clear parts, was wondering if there was a less harsh alternative

What I want to know is (and I apologize in advance to all the blue beetle fans out there), why did we get a marvel icons figure of him first before, Tim Drake (Red Robin), or Jason Todd (Red Hood) or how about even Dick Grayson?!

Personally I think if they were to release a Dick Grayson figure as he is now in the Grayson comic and/or the version of Jason Todd in Arsenal and the Red Hood comic with an alternate mask of head. It would be something collectors line up for just to be able to use those head sculpts.

Im assuming you're planning o visiting the Island as well than. Defient check out Expanded Universe in Melville, The Chosen One in Babylon or for more comics & gaming type stuff check Grasshopper comics out in williston park. Stay away from Fantastic Toyage in Massapequa, total rip off artist & prices are waaaay too high, plus I heard he sells repaired broken items & says they're new.

To Return or to.. Fix? in Action Figure Chatter by CptNonsense
Thursday, January 21, 2016
   [Edit]
Ok so a while back I got a Monsterarts King Kong, presumably legit. And for a good price. The problem is, the head was loose in the package where the neck joint had popped out of the socket. I can get it to go back into the socket with difficulty but any movement of the head causes it to come out. I can't get a replacement from Tamashii because the figure is too old and if I return it, I'm not getting another one because the prices are roughly 3x what I paid. So should I return it and blow the $60 elsewhere or does anyone here have any good ideas?

FYI, this is what the neck socket looks like in the body

Can't you just stuff something in there to keep it in? Like a little hot glue or wrapping some thread or tape around the neck ball so it gets wider and harder to popout.

I don't want to glue it and affix it permanently. Using some sort of tape didn't even occur to me. I'll see if there is something I can do there.

I would definetly keep it. and fix it like Dr. Nighrmare said. Tape on ball joint. carefull with pressure before putting back in socket.

The fact that is difficult to insert but bops out easily may be two things, that come to my mind. One is not really inserting all the way, try lipbalm to see if you can insert it further, or the socket is two small, this might need to require sanding either in the neck ball joint to decrease size (This could worsen the problem), or grinding the joint to make a bigger, or deeper actually receiver.

Not sure about the Darth Mauls, but I've ordered Clonetroopers from China before and they're alright. I did a writeup here: http://darktailss.deviantart.com/journa ... -553946133

Some of the recent troopers have limited articulation though.

If I had to guess, the bootleggers are simply using the original molds to make those new Maul figures, like they do with NECA Ninja Turtles. Quality is about the same as "official" figures. Considering all toys come from China anyway, you have to wonder if there's such a thing as bootlegs.

Lol, Thats true. Yeah I've been seeing them and haven't pulled the trigger yet. I saw a review on YouTube that someone put up about an overseas DM and it was odd . I think the sculpt would be the biggest thing with these since hes mostly flat black anyway. I've also thought the Dark Empire Luke that customizers make from him look good as well.

Found the All New Xmen 5 pack of figures @ TRU for the smoking price of $18.90. A few dollars short than the $125.00 that they were going for when they first came out. This was in Ontario, Canada but I though I would put it out there for people to try to get their mitts on them if they were looking for it. They were on the clearence table at the back of the store. Good luck and happy hunting.
